The low-down on Notting Hill Carnival

Notting Hill Carnival is Britain's most colourful street carnival. The first carnival was in 1966 and was organised by Caribbean immigrants* who wanted to bring some of the colour and music of their home countries to the grey streets of London. Now the carnival is a huge multicultural* arts festival and people come from all over the world to join in the fun. There are fancy dress parades with fantastic costume displays, street bands playing reggae and calypso*, stalls* selling exotic crafts* and food. So if you feel like partying don't forget to head for* Notting Hill on the last weekend in August.
